Fuel Stamp Scheme can help residents with fuel payments

The scheme is operated across the Coleraine Borough Council area and is administered by local representatives of St Vincent de Paul with support from Coleraine Borough Council and the Citizens’ Advice Bureau.

Fuel poverty remains a prominent problem within the Coleraine area and is being targeted through various schemes currently being delivered such as the Warm Homes and the Warmer Ways to Better Health initiatives.

Those most vulnerable to the cold are older people, those with young children, and those with a disability. The causes are inadequate heating systems, poorly insulated ordraughty homes, a cold climate, exceptionally cold weather, special heating needs, a need for higher temperatures, low income, and a lack of access to economic fuel.

Oil stamp savings cards and £5 oil stamps are available from participating retailers across the borough. The stamps are collected on a card (also available from the retailers).

The stamps will then be accepted as payment by all the participating oil distributors with each card holding 30 stamps.

The number of stamps available for purchased is unlimited, helping residents to spread the cost of oil over several weeks and months.

This project is aimed at helping families and individuals that are most at need and are finding it difficult to pay for fuel. By joining the saving scheme, residents will be able to budget on a weekly basis for the cost of heating oil and avoid having to purchase very costly drums of oil on an ad hoc basis.
