Full house at Carrick Library for McKinty visit

Some 60 fans of the genre gathered recently at Carrickfergus Library to meet the author, who now lives in St Kilda, Melbourne.

The fourth book in the acclaimed Sean Duffy detective series, Gun Street Girl has garnered positive reviews since its release earlier this year.

Adrian’s first Sean Duffy novel, The Cold Cold Ground, won the 2013 Spinetingler Award.

Follow-up I Hear The Sirens In The Street was shortlisted for the 2013 Ned Kelly Award and the 2014 Barry Award. It was long listed for the 2014 Theakston Best British Crime Novel Award.

The third instalment, In The Morning I’ll Be Gone, was picked as one of the top 10 crime novels of 2014 by the American Library Association.

The Duffy series was originally intended as a trilogy, according to the author. “I thought I was done with it after three books. Indeed I told my publishers that this was going to be a trilogy so I was a little taken aback when I found myself writing book four one morning,” he said.

Commenting on the library event, he added: “It was a full house and a great crowd so I was really happy. People asked really smart interesting questions about the nature of fiction and reality and literary styles so that kept me on my toes!”
