Full of beans at fundraising coffee morning for Beacon Club

A LOCAL group which supports elderly, bereaved or lonely people in the Larne area has held two fundraising events to help boost its coffers.

Larne Beacon Club, which meets every Monday evening in Gloucester Park Day Centre, was originally designed to help with the rehabilitation of people who were recovering from drug or alcohol abuse.

The membership is now made up of elderly, bereaved and lonely people.

The club’s activities involve quizzes, bingo, music and plenty of chat over cups of tea.

They also used to go on bus runs every Monday night in July and August, but recent cutbacks have meant the club can no longer afford to provide excursions.

In a bid to get this service back on track, a fundraising coffee morning was carried out on Wednesday, July 18.

And on Saturday, local musician Raymond Anderson set out to raise more funds for the cause by entertaining Larne shoppers on Main Street.
