Fun for Hillhall YFC

Hillhall Young Farmers’ Club has been going all out participating in a summer of competitions and events.

The summer programme started with seven members attending the qualifiers at Greenmount college in the girls’ football competion, determined to avoid defeat in defiance of the club’s track record.

Five matches later and they had made it to the finals in Balmoral, where, despite the support of club members past and present, victory eluded them.

A day later and the next club competition at Balmoral was the boys’ tug-of-war, for which Hillhall members had been training with a qualified coach in a bid to better last year’s second place. With only one defeat in their group they made it to the semi-finals and beat last year’s rivals Spa to reach the final.

At one pull apiece for Hillhall and fellow finalists BMWR, the decider ended in another worthy second place for Hillhall.

A club spokesperson said: “Everyone’s thoughts quickly changed though, when they remembered about the show dance, which they then quickly got dressed and away for.

“Hillhall YFC then went on to the mixed football where they got through to the finals but sadly had to forfeit as the team couldn’t make it.

“So it then came to the time in the year of tag rugby at Armagh rugby club. This is always a highlight for the club and it then saw us touchdown in the semi finals at Armagh show, having won all the qualifiers.

“The team then played a few rough matches, lasting eight minutes each, and, realizing their fitness wasn’t quite up to stretch they still managedto win all three matches andgo through to the finals against Anaclone and Magherally.

“With a few points scored from each team and only one minute left on the clock Hillhall supporters were getting very anxious but, as the whistle blew, it was Annaclone and Magherally who were triumphant,”

The last summer competition for the club was the annual raft race, Alexander Sleator’s transit van roof-raft sailing out to victory.
