Fun in the sun at Children’s Day

ON Saturday June 1 The Welcome Project and Wolny Wydech held an International Children’s Day event in Wallace Park, widely known and celebrated in Eastern European countries.

The core aim of the event was to promote and enhance inclusion and integration throughout Lisburn City by celebrating an international event.

This was an exciting event. Despite poor weather it was very well attended by representatives from BME community, local community within Lisburn, elected representatives and agencies, such as SEELB, Lisburn City Council Community Relations Unit, PSNI and
NIFRS.

We also had a great pleasure to have the Mayor of Lisburn Alderman William Leathem in attendance. The atmosphere was great and everyone felt welcomed. Participants had the opportunity to taste European Food, take part in family competitions and sport activities. Children enjoyed Bouncy Castles, Adventure climbing frame, Face Painting, Police Vehicles, Fire engine and Dogs display. Guys from Wolny Wydech, a motorcyclists’ club, brought and displayed their personal motorbikes.

A spokesperson from the Welcome Project said: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank all sponsors: Lisburn City Council, David Mitchell Good Relations Officer, OFMDFM, Trevor Graham Peace III Community Sports Development Officer, The Resurgam Trust, Lisburn SAFE, Polita, Piast Shop, www.wapnetmedia.com, NI Home Repairs, Tasty Choices. Also a big thank you to: PSNI, NIFRS, SEELB, Community Coaches, Belfast Hussars and all Volunteers.”

The event was organised as a part of Lisburn City Council’s Good Relations Programme which receives financial support from the Office of the First Minister and the Deputy First Minister.
