Fund boost thanks

A DONATION of £6,000 has been made to Altnagelvin Hospital through The Friends of Altnagelvin Hospital group.

It was made by Nicholas Mullan, from the Waterside, who raised the money in memory of his father Brian Mullan, from Kilfennan, who was a patient in the Coronary Care Unit. For just over a year the Mullan family raised the money through a series of events, including Nicholas participating in the Waterside Half-Marathon.

“Following dad’s death in 2008, our family knew that a great void would be left in our lives. What we did take comfort from, however, was the dedication and compassion shown by the staff who attended him. It was this compassion that gave us the strength we needed to get through those difficult days and nights,” said Nicholas, adding: “We knew that, just as important as the care and attention given by the staff, were the facilities provided for us where we could gather as a family and support each other through what was a difficult time. We knew that other families would be in need of similar facilities in future and so we decided to raise money for the Family Room in the Coronary Care Unit at Altnagelvin Hospital.”

Chairman of The Friends of Altnagelvin, Karen Love, said the committee was “very grateful”.
