Funding agreed for Ulster Scots project

The council’s Development Committee has agreed to contribute £1,000 to help fund an Ulster Scots tourism project.

The initiative, involving Newtownabbey, Carrickfergus and Lisburn councils, will include the production of an audio trail and themed literature on Ulster Scots Entrepreneurs, Ulster Scots and America, the 1798 Rebellion and Ulster Scots Writers.

The Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure has agreed to pay £17,000 towards the cost of the project, with each of the three councils having to pay match funding of £1,000.

Lisburn will act as lead council on the programme.
