Funding for tourist sites

An exciting project that will enhance and regenerate some of the key visitor sites along the stunning southern shores of Lough Neagh has received substantial funding .

The Development Department of Craigavon Borough Council has secured almost £180,000 of this funding from Southern Organisation for Action in Rural Areas (SOAR) and will see environmental improvement schemes put into action to make these areas look their best for visitors as well as installing some interpretation panels.

Environmental improvements are taking place at the Bayshore, Ardmore, Maghery Country Park, Bannfoot/Charlestown and Bartin’s Bay, Aghagallon. Beautifully animated interpretation panels providing information about the natural and cultural history of the area will be installed at Emerson Quay, Oxford Island, Kinnego, Ardmore, Gawley’s Gate & Portmore Lough.

“We are delighted to have been able to secure this funding from SOAR to make the already stunning Lough Shore Trail even more inviting to visitors from near and far,” commented Carla Lockhart, Chair of Development Committee.

“We are so lucky that our borough is situated on the beautiful shores of Lough Neagh and to be able to enhance these picturesque attractions even more will give our already excellent tourism offering an even further boost. We look forward to seeing this regeneration completed and being able to enjoy the areas.”
