Fundraiser for Dervock Playgroup

After 33 years service to her community, organising rotas, training programmes, being apprehensive about targets or fundraising, you would imagine that teamleader of Dervock Playgroup Mary Gillen would be relaxed?

However, on 28th November, sheer jubilation radiated from her as once again the communities of Dervock had came out and supported the fundraising event for the playgroup.

Mary said: “Brilliant, absolutely brilliant, when you plan these fundraising events, you hope that the community comes out and supports the suggestion, but the endorsement registered by the community for this event has been tremendous – whether it arrives from speculation about the future of the group or whether it’s as simple as the residents supporting a much needed resource/service in the community, I’m unsure.

“What I am sure of, is the continued support from the village of Dervock and District. I would like to personally thank David Kane (solo entertainer) for the excellent performance and concert organised by him featuring local talent. “Also, I would like to record my appreciation to all those who sold concert tickets, raffle tickets, pens etc - not forgetting the businesses, individuals who donated gifts, business vouchers etc for the raffle – which overall contributed to the grand total of £1024. It’s an amazing amount of money and shows the true heart of the people from Dervock and District. It certainly raises your spirit – when you see the community coming together to support such a vital resource/service in the community.

“The professional manner that the management and staff of ‘The North Irish Horse Inn’ performed in catering for those assembled must also be documented, a big
thanks to Derek, Stephanie and Julie.”

The concert was supported by Ultoniae Cultural & Heritage Society through the PIP initiative (Community Engagement) - funded by the ‘International Fund for Ireland’.
