Fundraiser raises £4,000

A FUNDRAISING event on October 27 in Rochester’s Bar in the Waterside has raised £4,000 for the MRI Scanner Appeal at the Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children, Belfast.

The event was spearheaded by the Slater family from Newbuildings, whose daughter Millie, was cared for in the hospital over two years ago. The hospital is the only one in the UK which does not have a dedicated MRI scanner for children.

The idea for the fundraiser came through Millie’s father David, who is a member of the Londonderry Northern Ireland Supporters Club, and when his club heard of the appeal they decided to take action.

To that end, five other supporters’ clubs and football teams, the members of which also meet in Rochesters, were asked to com eon board. The result was a charity dance, and the initial target was to raise £2,500 to £3,000 for the appeal.

However, the event was a huge success, raising over £4,000 and the Slater family and organising committee say they are delighted with the outcome.

An MRI scanner will benefit not only Millie, but countless other children.

The clubs, Rochesters Bar, the various sponsors and those who attended and made the event a success, are thanked for their contribution to the night and for raising such an impressive sum.
