Fundraisers appointed to help Wallace get new sporting facilities

A LISBURN school has decided to press ahead with ambitious plans for new sporting facilities by appointing two specialist fundraisers.

Wallace High School launched their first initiative this week by calling on the public to donate unwanted clothing which will help raise funds to provide two astro turf pitches at the Clonevin Road school.

“With government funding to schools under so much pressure The Board of Governors decided to make these appointments,” explained principal Deborah O’Hare. “Certainly our immediate focus is on the construction of the two astro turf pitches on our school grounds and we anticipate that the wider community will be able to benefit from our improved sports’ facilities.

“I am delighted to welcome two such able colleagues to the staff of Wallace High School.”

Richard Lee began his new role after Easter and has launched the drive for funds with the collection of unwanted items of clothing, shoes, belts, hand bags, duvets, pillows, cushion covers, curtains and towels.

These can be placed in a black bin liner and brought into the Sixth Form area of the school from 8.30 to 9.10am from Monday, May 23 to Friday, May 27.

Richard said he is excited about the project which the school is undertaking and commented: “I am really happy to be involved in such an exciting, vibrant school such as Wallace with a strong sporting tradition.

“The clothing appeal is an important first step towards the development of sports’ facilities at the school and I hope that the pupils, parents and staff of the school get right behind the initiative.”

Tracy Marshall will work for the school on a consultancy basis, seeking fundraising sources for a wider remit, beyond sport. An experienced fundraiser, she has a broad portfolio of experience in the voluntary sector in the UK.
