Fundraising activities for RDA, Coleraine

ASDAN students continue to raise funds for Riding for the Disabled, Coleraine.

Recent quiz nights at the Port Hotel, Portrush (372), and in the Railway Arms, Coleraine (272) were very successful, and the support of these establishments is much appreciated.

The next big fundraising event will be the annual Benvarden Fete and Fun Day on Sunday, May 30 from 2pm to 4.30pm.

There will be activities pony rides, pony and trap, vintage vehicles, and teas and burgers. ASDAN students will be helping out during the day.

The ASDAN course involved provides volunteers with an opportunity help at the RDA Coleraine and at the same time to gain a professionally recognised ASDAN qualification, in Community Volunteering Qualification (CVQ), levels 2 and/or 3 which provides UCAS points to successful candidates. RDA Coleraine has been running the scheme since 2006.

Volunteers undertake a minimum of 30 hours over the course of the year. Activities include leading or side walking ponies, tacking-up, and general stable duties after appropriate training. There is some (rather miminal) written coursework attached to this programme.

Persons wishing to take part for the 2010-11 sessions should contact the RDA Coleraine Youth Leader to obtain information, and an application form.
