Fundraising auction will help meet costs of Moira Presbyterian project

Out with the old and in with the new is not too far away for Moira Presbyterian Church when hopefully they cut the first sod for the new church complex early in 2016.

The project, which is expected to cost in excess of £1m, has been in the planning for the past five years.

The complex will include a 300-seat sanctuary with a parent/infant viewing area, an additional multi-purpose meeting room, a minister’s room, a church office, and a large foyer with coffee bar facilities.

As part of that ongoing effort to raise funds for the project, the church will hold an Auction of household goods, garden furniture, bikes and other items in their hall today (Friday, 4th September) with free viewing from 5 p.m.

Rev Howard Gilpin, Minister of the Moira congregation, praised the church family’s effort to date in preparation for the auction; saying that the last one was held over forty years ago to raise money for a new church hall.

The Moira congregation has been very active in raising necessary funds to help meet the cost of the new complex.

There is no entry fee for the auction which will start at 7 p.m.

Earlier this week the church hall was open on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, and will be this Thursday from 7.00 to 10 p.m. where auction items can be left.

Already the church members and their friends have been working hard to make the auction a success by donating old and new items.

They are also very grateful for the generous and enthusiastic support they are receiving from local businesses.

However Thomas McGeown and his team are still appealing to the general public in Moira and surrounding district to donate items as well.
