Fundraising continues for choir

The Chamber Choir from Coleraine Grammar School are off to New York in January.

In the past few weeks, the girls have been busy rehearsing and promoting their forthcoming gala night, which will raise money for the once in a life time trip to perform at the world famous Carnegie Hall.

Last Friday night the Port Hotel was packed to capacity, as 21 teams took part in a table quiz organised to raise funds for the trip.

The quiz was organised by Joanne Glass, a member of the committee of parents, thanks to Joanne, and all those who attended to support the girls.

Last Saturday morning, the girls made their way to Garvagh, to take part in a live broadcast of BBC Radio Ulster’s John Toal show.

Jennifer Galbraith’s house in Garvagh was the venue, and what an experience it was for the those involved.

They got to meet John Toal, and performed live on BBC Radio Ulster.

Local chef Paula McIntyre was on hand to provide the choir with a delicious Arroz con Costra.

The show was as eclectic mix of choral singing, the Women’s Institute, Aghadowey Oval Stockcar Racing, Garvagh Tug of War and Hampsey Harp School among others and is still available on iPlayer for another few weeks.

Apart from the performing and socialising aspects of the morning, one of the main reasons for the show was to promote the Coleraine Grammar Girls’ Chamber Choir Gala Musical Evening to be held in the Diamond Hall at the University of Ulster on Friday 30th October at 7:30pm.

The evening will be hosted by by Sarah Travers and will feature Kaz Hawkins, The Linley Hamilton Trio, Clive and Adrian Culbertson with Rod McVey, The Rhythm Rascals, Helen Aiken and Guests, The Dominic Graham Dancers, pupils from Coleraine Grammar and Loreto and Coleraine Grammar School Girls’ Chamber Choir.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.eventbrite.co.uk or from the school.
