Fundraising page set up for Crumlin rider

Friends of the family set up the GoFundMe page this week, to help towards Stephen’s recovery, after he was involved in a road crash involving a spectator.

The accident occured on May 16 during the opening Superstock race on the section of the course between York Corner and Mill Road Roundabout.

The 39 year-old was seriously injured as he was trying to avoid a fallen rider.

While Stephen is still recovering at the Royal Victoria Hospital, if well enough he plans to travel this week to Dublin via ambulance to meet a nerve specialist about his shattered hand.

Recovering from a list of injuries including, a bleed on the brain, a brachial plexus injury, broken rib, collapsed lung, broken femus and broken tibia and fibula as well as damage to the knee, according to sources Stephen is making ‘slow and steady’ progress.

Stephen is a regular competitor at the North West 200, Isle of Man TT, Ulster Grand Prix, and Macau Grand Prix road circuits.

According to his partner Charlotte, “Stephen currently has no feeling from the shoulder down on his left arm.

“It looks like Stephen could be in hospital for a long stay until he has more movement on his arm and leg.

“The broken ribs are making progress which is also helping get his breathing more stable.”

In one of the most recent posts on their Facebook page, it stated, “Stephen is low and not in form. I know it’s one day at a time at this stage.

“Our aim is to get him to go to Dublin. Thank you to everyone again for your continued support. We as a family can’t thank you enough.”

The Facebook page also thanked all the well wishers for their continued support and help since the accident.

It stated: “Thank you for all your kind messages prayers.

“We couldnt praise the staff, nurses, consultatnats at the Royal for how they are looking after Stephen nad how that have and treating us as a family.

“They are amazing people. We as a family can see small progress. Our goal this week is to have him fit enough to travel to Dublin via ambulance.

“Tomorrow is another day and my aim is to mentally convince him he is doing grea t and try to get him easing a little more.”

Stephen has two children Fay and Libbie.
