Funeral for patient killed in tragic hospital incident

The funeral will take place tomorrow (Saturday) of former Maghery woman Anita Rooney who died suddenly in an incident at Craigavon Hospital on Wednesday.

Mrs Rooney (nee McAlinden) was a patient in the hospital and is believed to have died following a fall from a landing.

A Southern Health and Social Care Trust spokesperson said they were treating her death as a “tragic incident”.

Police are working with the Trust to establish the details of the popular 50-year-old’s death.

Mrs Rooney, who lived in Dungannon, was highly respected in the area as a businesswoman who specialised in the area of recruitment.

Dungannon SDLP councillor Denise Mullen expressed her deepest sympathies to the Rooney and extended families.

“Anita was a highly respected businesswoman in Dungannon, a loving mother and a true friend to so many,” Cllr Mullen said.

“I recall when my Aunt Annie died, Anita, who was one of her neighbours, was always there helping to sort things out for us, and for that I was always truly grateful to her.

“Anita was a lovely person with a great sense of humour and wit. She will be sorely missed.”

Mrs Rooney is survived by her husband Michael, children Thomas, Natalie and Chloe, father Vincent and family circle.

Requiem mass will take place in St Patrick’s Church at 10am with interment afterwards in Carland Road Cemetery.
