Furniture refurbishment charity launches specialist service

FURNITURE refurbishing charity Voluntary Service Lisburn (VSL) has launched a new bespoke service, Inspiration, to complement their traditional VSL range.

The service will run from a studio above VSL’s Bachelors Walk workshop and will allow customers to be an integral part of the design process.

Clients will be able to pick furniture available in store and have it decorated to their personal specification. Alternatively clients can bring in their favourite old faithful item for updating.

Prior to launching Inspiration as a separate service VSL had already built up an impressive portfolio of clients. Their work includes the shop fit for award winning boutique Candy Plum and stylish new bridal shop, Petticoat Lane.

VSL have been operating since 1981 and all proceeds from sales go back into helping those in need in the community. The refurbishment of the furniture is carried out by the long term unemployed and others who find it difficult to gain employment. Throughout their time at VSL they are trained in the cleaning, restoration and refurbishment of second hand furniture, thus increasing their future employability.

VSL Chief Executive Pamela Neill said of the new venture: “Whilst working on previous projects our staff have shown a real flair for design and have created some truly inspired pieces. With all this talent in the organisation it felt like a natural progression to start offering a tailored service. I am very excited to see what designs the clients and our team will be able to come up with together.”
