This phase will complete Lurgan’s transformation with over £5.5 million invested in the town over the last five years.

Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council is delighted to have secured further funding in the region of £150,000 from the Department for Social Development with Council contributing £600,000 to the project.

This phase will include Church Walk, Castle Lane, Union Street, Carnegie Street and Watson’s Lane and will see the resurfacing of footways with asphalt and granite kerbs, the installation of street furniture, landscaping, tree planting, new lighting as well as ‘undergrounding’ of unsightly overhead cables.

There will also be an additional six parking spaces throughout the scheme.

“I am absolutely delighted that Council has secured yet more funding to continue the wonderful transformation of Lurgan town centre,” commented the Lord Mayor Councillor Darryn Causby.

“The last five years of public realm investment has helped to re-establish Lurgan as the vibrant market town that it has been historically known as and I know that footfall in the town following the first phase of works increased by over 30% which is fantastic.

“I look forward to seeing the completion of this third phase of enhancement which will add the finishing touches to this multi-million pound project.”

Work is due to start in October and will be phased to minimise disruption. Pedestrian access will be maintained as will access to the premises on the affected streets throughout the works.

Works will take a break from early December to early January 2016 for Christmas shopping.

Plans for the project will be on public display in the Town Hall from Monday to Friday, August 24-28. Members of the Project Board will be at the Town Hall on Tuesday, August 25, from noon to 2pm and Thursday, August 27, from 5pm to 7pm giving the public an opportunity to air their views on the plans.
