Fusion bring Aida to the stage

Award winning local theatre company, Fusion Theatre, will be bringing the Elton John and Tim Rice musical Aida to the Lisburn stage next month.

The new production will be brought to life at the Lagan Valley Island from February 4 to 7 and tickets are on sale now.

The production is directed by Fusion’s in-house Director and Musical Director Ian Milford, and choreographed by Rea Campbell Hill, in his debut in the role. Rea is no stranger to Fusion, since he was himself a member of the group before he trained professionally.

There is a danger of confusing this modern musical with the Verdi opera of the same name, so Ian Milford is keen to ensure that potential audience members know that this is a modern musical, and features styles ranging form rock to reggae, although the story relies heavily on the original story told in the Verdi opera.

The musical features Fusion’s own Megan McGarry (who played Ellen in Miss Saigon in September) as Aida and Adam Williamson (who played Chris in Miss Saigon) as Radames.

The show gives Anna-Lee Corbett her first principal role, as Nehebka, and Conor Richardson his first lead role as Mereb. Newcomer Taragh Green plays Amneris and the roles of Pharaoh, Zoser and Amonasro are played by Cameron Brady, Cameron Mack and Micaeal Lynch respectively.

“Aida is a modern musical which will appeal to a modern audience,” explained director Ian Milford.

“I’m a huge fan,of this show and I can guarantee that the songs in this musical are every bit as good as you would expect from the team who brought you Lion King, the man who wrote “Crocodile Rock” and “Candle in the Wind” and the musicals legend that is Tim Rice.

“So.... if you are an Elton John fan, a Tim Rice fan, a fan of musical theatre, or a fan of Fusion Theatre , and there are a lot of you about, go down and book your tickets. “
