Future of 
Orange Order to bediscussed at workshops

The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland and Orange Community Network 
STRIPE project are holding a series of consultation workshops to discuss the future of the Order.

One of the workshops, entitled ‘Orange Order: The Way Forward’, will be held in the Laganview Enterprise Centre in Old Warren on Thursday, October 17, at 7.30pm.

The workshops are aimed at members of the Orange Order and users of Orange Halls. Locally, the workshop will be facilitated by STRIPE and chaired by Project Manager William Leathem.

A spokesperson for STRIPE explained: “The Orange Institution faces many challenges, for example parades deemed as ‘contentious’, connecting with the Protestant Community, playing an active role in broader civic society and being prepared to adapt to meet 21st Century challenges.

“This is your chance to have your say on your future to help determine the future direction of the Orange Order, and we invite everyone to participate,” he continued.

“Strategic questions will be put to participants such as: What is the role of the Orange Order?

“What is the remit of the Orange Order?

“Are the internal structures of the Orange Order fit for purpose or effective?

“Is the organisation geared to meet the challenges of the 21st century?

“How could the order be more appealing to aid recruitment?

“What is the public perception of the Orange Order? Is there a need to change this?

“What are the main challenges and how do we address these?

“Where do we go from here?

“As trite as it may sound, there is truth in the old maxim: Those who fail to plan; plan to fail.

“We invite you to engage in this process with us,” he concluded.
