G-Mac launches children’scharity

The G-Mac Foundation will work in conjunction with lead researchers and the main hospitals in Belfast and Dublin to help raise funds for a number of causes.

“Charity is something I’ve always wanted to be involved in,” the Ryder Cup star and former US Open champion, said on his official website.

“I’m delighted to now have my own G-Mac Foundation to channel any funds I raise to support my charities of choice.”

The Portrush man already takes part in many fund-raising events - like the Tavistock Cup in Florida - and is a long-term supporter of Multiple Sclerosis charities, which will remain a priority.

“My mum has this neurological condition, so it’s a cause that’s understandably very close to my heart,” he said.

The golfer became passionate about supporting the work of the Children’s Medical and Research Foundation when he saw their work first hand, during a visit to a Dublin hospital.

And he hopes children suffering through illness will be able to benefit, not just in the long-term, but as they undergo treatment or are recovering.

“We hope to take some of these sick and recovering children on trips, such as to Orlando - giving them the experience of a lifetime to help lift their spirits,” G-Mac said.

The G-Mac Foundation was officially launched last Tuesday at Rosie O’Grady’s on New York City’s Seventh Avenue - with events including a charity auction, where a ‘one-of-a-kind’ G-Mac golf experience was among the items on offer.
