With the inspiration of Dungannon man Trevor McKay, the Club was founded in the Autumn of 1989, with eighteen walkers attending the first outing on Binevenagh

While primarily drawn from the Mid-Ulster area members hail from across the province and often beyond. Together they have walked hill, mountain and coast throughout the north of Ireland, while annual Spring and Autumn Trips have found them travelling to destinations such as Wicklow, Kerry, Snowdonia and the Scottish Highlands.

Some members have ventured even further, with trips organised by or within the Club to Europe, the Himalayas and South America.

The Club organises a Sunday walk every three weeks, its traditional format, with recent years seeing the addition of a very popular fortnightly Thursday walks Programme, exploring a rich variety of mostly lowland routes.

In 2009 the Club also began a very successful association with Cookstown Council in support of its annual ‘Sperrintrekkers’ Walking Festivals.

Twenty-five years on the Club continues to flourish and now looks forward to fresh challenges and hopefully many more days on the trail.

If any former members would like to join us at the Glenavon they would be warmly welcomed and should contact Mary Hamill on 07761217044.

If you think you might enjoy walking with the Club please phone George (8778 4081 ) or Ken (07912383516).
