Game Fair award for Vaughan

Antrim gunsmith, Vaughan Harkness, owner of Country Sports & Tackle, has been honoured with an accolade from The Great Game Fairs of Ireland.

The long-standing champion of country sports was praised by Albert Titterington, Director of The Great Game Fairs of Ireland, for his commitment to shooting and for the active and influential role he has played as Honorary Chairman of the Northern Ireland Firearms Dealers and Shooters Association.

Announcing the award in the company of Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor John Scott and with an audience of country sports enthusiasts, Albert spoke warmly of Vaughan’s expertise in modern and antique firearms and for his willingness to share his knowledge with others.

Albert said: “Vaughan’s Antrim-based business is synonymous with shooting and over the years his presence in the ’Game Keepers Marquee’ at the Game Fair and Fine Food Festival at Shane’s Castle has also proved a hugely popular attraction, attracting not only loyal customers from across these islands, but also providing a supportive introduction for newcomers to the sport.

“His expertise and knowledge, combined with his love of the sport, make him a superb ambassador for shooting and his work representing the rights – and the responsibilities – of those involved in the sport has been of a uniquely high standard. We are delighted to recognise the outstanding contribution which Vaughan Harkness has made – and continues to make – to the sporting community at a local, regional and national level.”
