Games galore!

MORE than 50, Anchor Boys attended the recent annual battalion get-together , which was held at High Street Methodist church halls (kindly granted).

As well as a special visit by a clown, other items included: walk the plank, balloon games, hool a hoop race, ball throw, trampolining and story-telling to name but a few and of course the hot-dogs and sweeties went down a treat at the end of the fun-filled morning's activities.

Thanks go to Lt Andrea Jennett (Lurgan Battalion Activities Co-Ordinator) and her team for organising the event, which saw participation by 1st Lurgan, 1st Waringstown, 2nd Lurgan, 1st Magheralin and 1st Bluestone BB units.

FIVE companies participated in this session's annual draughts and chess competition, which was kindly hosted by the Hill Street Boys' Brigade Company and organised by Lt Roy Constable (Battalion Recreation Officer) and Lt Malcolm Adamson (1st Knocknamuckley).

In the singles event Thomas Adamson (1st Knocknamuckley) won the draughts section, with William Dunlop (1st Waringstown) as runner-up and his colleague, William Craig gaining the bronze medal.

The chess tournament saw 'Muckley's Philip Adamson receive the gold medal, with 1st Bluestone's Jack White as runner-up and Samuel Dynes (1st Knocknamuckley) in 3rd place.

The combined scores of the two competitions resulted in Lt Stephen Russell's 1st Knocknamuckley outfit declared the winning the team in the event followed by 1st Waringstown and 1st Bluestone.

1st Moira and 1st Lurgan also took part in what was an enjoyable evening's fun and fellowship played in typical BB spirit.

Date change

COMPANY sports officers are asked to note that the battalion bowls competition has now been changed from Friday, October 22, to Wednesday, November 17, at 7pm in High Street Presbyterian Church Halls.

Good attendance

MORE than 15 boys attended this year's President's Badge Grade 3 Leadership Course, which was kindly hosted by Captain Derek Thompson's 3rd Lurgan company.

Various challenges, tasks and team-building exercises were assigned to the boys who all enjoyed the course content which was concluded by Joshua Thornbury (1st Lurgan BB) who led challenging epilogues.

Organiser Lt Roy Constable is interested to hear from other companies who have potential candidates as a second course may take place in the new year.

Colouring competition

ANCHOR Boy staff are reminded that the deadline for this year's battalion heat of the Northern Ireland Regional Colouring Competition is Saturday, October 30, as the selected drawings are required to be at headquarters by November 5. Battalion Anchor Boy Co-Ordinator Lt Andrea Jennett has requested all units to send in their entries ASAP.
