Gang ties up Moira family

A family were tied up during an aggravated burglary in Moira on Saturday.

The gang many of them armed with knives and a hammer forced their way into the house on the Drumbane Road and then tied up the family with cables and hit one of the adults with a hammer.

The family who were targetted - three children, a woman and two men - were forced into one room. They then threatened and assaulted one of the men they had tied up, striking him on his back with the hammer.

The gang then tied up the three adults with cable ties before ransacking the house.

During the incident two gang members remained outside the house and when two other members of the family returned to the house while the burglary was taking place they were also tied up and forced into the same room.

The gang stole cash from the house and a car belonging to one of the family members.

Police have appealed for information or sightings of the blue Volkswagen Golf, registration number GL59 PYV.

All six gang members were described as being dressed in dark coloured jackets, tracksuits and trainers.

They all wore woollen gloves with balaclavas covering their faces.Four of them were said to be approximately 5’8”- 5’11” tall and of slim build.

One burglar was much shorter and the last one was over 6’ tall, of heavy build with grey hair.
