Hillsborough is losing out as the famous Garden Show Ireland is moving to pastures new.

The annual garden festival, which is held over three days, is one of the most significant events in the horticultural calendar in Northern Ireland but next May it will be moving from the Hillsborough Castle site to Antrim Castle.

Commenting on the move Claire Faulkner, Director of Garden Show Ireland said: “We have had seven wonderful years in the beautiful surroundings of Hillsborough Castle where we have appreciated support from so many members of the local community.

“The new venue at Antrim Castle Gardens offers new opportunities to a growing Show and we are really excited at the prospect of welcoming our visitors to yet another very special heritage garden at Antrim Castle Gardens. The beautifully restored historic gardens with the superb infrastructure of the site provide a magnificent backdrop for the Garden Festival and will be a delight to committed gardeners and families alike.“

“We are proud that Northern Ireland’s premier gardening event will have the opportunity from May 9-11 2014 to join Antrim Borough Council in celebrating their completion of this major investment which restores to Northern Ireland a very special heritage garden.”

Antrim Castle Gardens is one of the most unique and historically intact gardens under public ownership in Ireland containing over four centuries of garden heritage. It has been beautifully restored by Antrim Borough Council incorporating newly revived garden features with fully accessible pathways and tracks.
