Garvagh woman was over twice the limit

A NURSE from Garvagh has been disqualified from driving.

Before North Antrim Magistrates’ Court was Kelly Lagan (23) of Tobartee Crescent. She was charged with a number of driving offences following an incident on July 10.

Court heard that police stopped Lagan in Main Street in Garvagh driving a Ford Transit van.

She came to their attention after she swerved to avoid a sign in the central carriageway of the road.

There was a strong smell of alcohol from Lagan, her eyes were glazed and speech slurred. The male in the passenger seat of the van, was also showing signs that he had been drinking.

Lagan was arrested for driving whilst under the influence of alcohol. A breath sample indicated that she was over twice the legal limit.

On July 14, she attended the police station for an interview and admitted being an ‘L’ driver.

A solicitor told the court that on the night in question Lagan had gone to visit friends and had driven her friend’s vehicle home as he was in an intoxicated state.

District Judge, Richard Wilson, fined Lagan 200 and banned her for two years for driving with excess alcohol. She was fined 200 for driving with no insurance, 50 for no ‘L’ plates and 100 for having no supervising driver.
