The project, which sees Gary going through an intense physical challenge each month, has so far raised £757 for animal charity WSPA and donations continue to rise.

Last month in April saw Gary’s latest challenge, an icy half marathon swim along the coast of Benone strand.

Gary said: “The past few challenges have all been very different. There has been running, climbing, cycling, and now the natural progression was to take to the water.

“The only real training for any open water swimming was many an hour spent bodyboarding along the north coast.

“This proved to be invaluable, as the water was so cold it made swimming extremely difficult, especially once your hands and face go numb!

“Luckily I had the support of great friends along the beach, and this was definitely the main factor which made this challenge possible.”

Gary spent three hours in the water, only emerging occasionally to warm up and gain some feeling back in his limbs!

This month sees him doing an incredible 24 hour walk over two days, following the Ulster way from Dungiven Castle to Glenarm.
