Gas for Glynn if demand sufficient

Glynn residents have been urged to tell energy firm Phoenix if they would like to convert to natural gas.

East Antrim MP Sammy Wilson is trying to persuade Phoenix to extend the pipeline to the village, but the company needs evidence of demand.

Mr Wilson said statistics show that where gas is available, fuel poverty tends to be reduced: “At a time when many households are suffering fuel poverty, in my view it is important that there should be as wide a choice available to people as to how they heat their homes.

“Fortunately, Glynn falls within the existing licence area that has been granted to Phoenix Gas by the Utility Regulator and therefore it would be possible for them to extend the gas network to the village.”

Mr Wilson added: “I have been promised by Phoenix Gas that if there is sufficient interest then they would start to progress the village as a potential area for network development.”

He encouraged people within the Glynn to register an interest with Phoenix Gas by contacting 08454 555555 or go to www.phoenixnaturalgas.com
