Gas storage objections presented to ministers

LOBBYISTS battling to prevent the creation of a gas storage facility at Larne Lough have taken their case to Stormont ministers.

As previously reported, a number of residents formed the North Islandmagee Action Group (NIAG) to highlight concerns about the proposed seven-year project, which would see the construction of a 500 million cubic metres natural gas storage facility in salt caverns under the lough.

Applicant Islandmagee Storage Ltd (IMSL) has said that the 250 facility would be able to satisfy Northern Ireland's peak demand for gas for over 60 days, reducing the risk of price hikes due to shortages.
