Gaza Londonderry school link up

A GROUP of Londonderry men who delivered an ambulance load of medical supplies to Palestine in January will tonight March 24 launch a "Link for Learning" programme between schools in the North West and the Gaza strip.

A spokesperson for the Derry Friends of Palestine group said today: "Everyone in Derry is invited to attend the public launch for the first formal cultural link curriculum, 'Link for Learning' program between schools in Derry and in Khan Younis, Gaza.

"The programme of school linkages will provide a valuable learning tool for Derry school students and for children in the Gaza Strip.

"For the first time in years, young people in Gaza, who are trapped, unable to travel because of the Israeli siege, will be able to meet young people from other countries, cultures and interests.

"It will make a major contribution to the well-being of the children of Gaza and we are proud that Derry pupils will be at the forefront in helping their less fortunate counterparts in Palestine."

The spokesperson said the programme has been drafted by local school teachers and is designed to fit in with the modern school curriculum.

He added: "In another exciting development leading human rights activists, Caoimhe Butterly and Ewa Jasiewicsz, on behalf of the Free Gaza movement, will be speaking about the Flotilla in April.

"The boats will be delivering letters to the children of Gaza from children in Derry and Ireland."
