Gearing up for Screwball Rally

THREE local would-be rally drivers are gearing up for a mammoth Screwball Rally across Europe for charity - in a car worth only £750.

Brothers Chris and Jim Flanagan along with Paul McManus will be at Tesco's car park on Saturday to raise funds for their charity rally.

They are offering space on a 14-year-old Honda Accord, donated by KD Kars of Gilford, to anyone who wants to sponsor the team.

A square foot of space is available for a minimum donation of 50 with all proceeds going to the Shine a Light charity.

Chris said: "Its going to be a good bit of craic, but it is also going to be very tough.

"The car had to be worth no more than 750 and KD Kars has been very generous, along with many others.

"We will be travelling right across Europe including France, Italy and Germany.

"Some days we will average over 400 miles in the car and we have to get there first and get back which will add another couple of days driving."

The Shine a Light charity helps local children suffering with cancer, Chris continued: "All the money raised for the charity goes straight to helping local kids.

"It's a fantastic organisation and does some good work and we are hoping to raise 5,000.

"This is a chance for anyone to get their logo on the car and support this good cause."

Fundraisers have been held since December with more planned right up to the rally's start in September. A disco and live band night in the Goodyear raised 1,300.
