Gearing up for the Twelfth

PREPARATIONS are well underway for the Twelfth festival to be held in the town this year.

And to mark the occasion the 2010 Organising Committee, chaired by David Martin, has commissioned a specially designed logo.

Three orange lilies with '2010 Lurgan' written across them will feature on the range of merchandise and displays to commemorate the 320th anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne.

Committee member Victor Stewart said: "The lilly has been a traditional symbol of the Orange.

"It dates back to a period in the 1830s when the Order was banned and people wore the orange lilly to show their support for the Order.

"We are hoping it will appeal to a wider section of the community and encourage more people to join in with the celebrations.

"The organisation is going very well. We are planning a whole host of events in the run up to the day, like an Ulster-Scots music night and Lambeg drums display - all centred around Brownlow House.

"And will we be announcing details of a new route for the parade."

Full details on all the events are expected to be announced around Easter time.
