General election: How and when to vote

To vote on Thursday, you need to bring a correct form of photographic ID to the polling station. Without it you cannot vote. It doesn’t matter if your ID is out of date as you can still use it.

Polling stations are open from 7am until 10pm. Any voter who arrives at the polling station before 10pm and is still waiting to vote at 10pm will be able to do so after a 2013 change to the law.

Check your polling card to see where the polling station is. You don’t need your polling card to vote, but it can speed up the process. Only mark one ‘X’ for the candidate of your choice.

Take your postal vote to your local area electoral office and hand it in if you haven’t had a chance to post it in time.
