Geography students embark on Italy trip

THIRTY-five Geography 'A' Level students from Coleraine High School, accompanied by three teachers will embark on a five day fieldwork trip to Italy from Wednesday.

The highlight of the trip will be a trek up Mount Vesuvius, the volcano that buried the city of Pompeii in AD79.

The girls will also visit Pompeii and Herculaneum, another city destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius and view artefacts from the event in Naples Archaeological Museum.

Mrs Jacki Currie, Head of Geography, said: “We took our first field trip abroad in 2008 and had such an amazing experience with the group that we decided to undertake a similar trip again.

“It will be something that our students will remember for the rest of their lives. They will be able to see at first hand the power of nature and the impact that it can have on people and places”.
