Gerry McKerr’s funeral is on Saturday

The funeral of the late Gerry McKerr is to take place tomorrow (Saturday) in Lurgan.

Mr McKerr, one of the ‘Hooded Men’, died on Thursday morning in Craigavon Hospital.

In August 1971 Gerry and others were hooded and handcuffed, bundled into a truck where they were kicked and beaten, and brought to a helicopter.

That was the beginning of years of torture and along with Lurgan man Jim McIlmurray Gerry has been at the forefront of a campaign for justice.

Gerry was delighted when recently the Irish government requested that the European court reopen the case of the Hooded Men.

He is mourned by his wife Eileen, sons and daughter Sean, Kathleen and Dwyer, grandchildren, brothers and sisters and wide family circle as well as his many friends.
