Get on your ‘hike’ to change childhoods, urges NSPCC

Children’s charity the NSPCC is encouraging people in Ballymena to get hiking to change childhoods in Northern Ireland.

It is appealing to people in the town and surrounding district to pull on their walking books and take on the NSPCC Hike Against Cruelty to Kids (HACK) which will be back at the breath-taking Mourne Mountains on Saturday, September 19.

This year’s Mournes HACK will again be offering walkers a 14-mile and 20-mile route and will cover some of the most spectacular scenery Northern Ireland has to offer.

Karen Kerr, Northern Ireland NSPCC community fundraising manager, is encouraging Ballymena people to get hiking for NSPCC, whether new to walking or a seasoned pro.

She said: “It really is an amazing experience and the perfect way to get fit and take on a challenge for the NSPCC in Northern Ireland. Anyone really can do it with some training and encouragement; there is so much support available in the run up to the event and on the day. We’ll help you with fundraising and training, and will have lots of people encouraging you on your way; not to mention tea and buns at the checkpoint and our BBQ at the finish line, which is always a firm favourite!”

The HACK is open to people aged 18 years and over and costs just £20 to register for the 14-mile or £25 for the 20-mile route.
