Get on your motorbike for Marie Curie

All those wishing to participate should be at Lagan Valley Island for 9.00am with the run leaving at 9.45am sharp to travel to Newcastle.

The party will then return to Lisburn, on motorcycle, via Kilkeel, Rostrevor and Newry. The entry fee is £10 per person.

The Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Andrew Ewing, speaking about the upcoming charity event, said: “It would be fantastic to see a significant convoy of motorbikes and trikes take part and raise money for Marie Curie.

“I would like to emphasise that this event will be well marshalled and safety is a top priority to ensure a safe and enjoyable run out for riders.

“The event will also be in memory of the late Bruce Moulds, a local motorcyclist who died last year at the Walderstown Races.

“ I would be honoured if local motorcycle clubs would join us in this event.

“This is a special event for me. It remembers a dear friend and will raise money for a charity that helps those with cancer.

“I know how generous the motorcycling fraternity is and I would encourage people to participate in this motorcycle run.”

As an added incentive, the Mayor has enlisted the support of both Phillip McCallen, five time winner of the Ulster Grand Prix, and whose business is based at Lissue Industrial Estate, Lisburn, and GS Motorcycles in Hillsborough.

Both of these retailers will be offering special promotions and discounts on the day of the event to participants in the motorcycle ride.

Mr Ewing is delighted both local businesses are supporting the Motorcycle Run, which will involve stops at the motorcycle premises on the route.

The Mayor chose Marie Curie Cancer are as his charity for the year and is holding a host of events throughout his term in office to raise money for the charity. Marie Curie Cancer Care aims to help people and their families living with a terminal illness make the most of the time they have together by delivering expert care, emotional support, research and guidance.
