For anyone interested in installing a renewable technology such as a wind turbine or anaerobic digestion, NIE’s connections experts will be able to take you through the grid connection process from start to finish.

A spokesperson said: “As usual NIE safety engineers will be on hand to give valuable safety advice on how to work safely near the electricity network and you can also enter the NIE Farm Safety Competition to win some fantastic prizes.

“NIE Tree Maintenance teams will be advising landowners and farmers on how to cut with care when trimming trees and cutting hedges.”

Head of Health, Safety and Environment at NIE, Kevin McDowell said the Show was a great time to speak to the farming community about safety.

“This is a busy time of the year for farmers and agricultural contractors,” he said. “We’d like to remind everyone working near the electricity network to follow safety guidelines and keep themselves and everyone on site safe.

“Come along to the NIE stand for a chat with one of our safety experts and put safety first this spring”

Michael Atkinson, NIE Head of Generation Connections, promised something for everyone at the NIE stand.

“This year,” he said, “connection of renewables is again on the agenda.

“The interest in customers generating their own electricity has continued to grow steadily in recent years. This is leading to significant challenges now for NIE, due to high levels of congestion on our network.

“NIE will be on hand to advise landowners on these challenges alongside the process for connecting a range of large and small scale renewable technologies to the electricity network.”
