Get voting and put Lurgan Park on map

The park, the second biggest in Ireland, is just another part of the town for many, but for the Friends of Lurgan Park, it is a special social and historic area that deserves recognition.

John Collen, a member of the Friends of Lurgan Park, said: “Many people take the park for granted. Other big towns in Northern Ireland don’t have anything like it. People don’t realise how lucky we are.”

The Friends of the Park is a group of people concerned and interested in the upkeep of the park for everyone to enjoy. John got involved after seeing an advert in the 'MAIL' seeking members.

“I go every other day,” he said, “I like to go there with my grandson. He can play there safe from traffic and in fresh air. The park really is a very important place.”

He added: “Lots of different people enjoy the park. It would be brilliant if we won the award.”

Before the rankings were taken down the park was top in Northern Ireland and sixth for the UK as whole in the vote.
