Pastor Curtis Samuel, the pastor at Banbridge Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Newry Road, explained that the ‘free hugs’ are part of the church’s plan for a day of carrying out acts of kindness.

“We want to do some acts of kindness in and around the town centre. Some of the activities include giving out free hugs and dropping a ‘thank you’ basket to the fire station,” he said.

“We have some Adventist youth from other churches around the country coming to help out with this.

“The idea behind it is to be the sermon as opposed to just listening to the sermon. We just want to put some smiles on peoples faces,” Pastor Samuel added.
