Gilford group cheers swift mural repairs

Gilford Concerned Residents’ Group enlisted the aid of MLA Sydney Anderson to press Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council to repair the surrounds of the murals, each depicting scenes of bygone Gilford.

“I met with representatives of the ABC Council in Gilford to show them the extent of the deterioration of the mural surrounds,” said Mr Anderson.

The Upper Bann MLA applauded the local authority for moving quuickly to carry out the now completed work.

“Credit must go to Pamela Matthews and Robert Stockley of the ABC Council and the other council authorities for the swift manner in which they carried out the repair work,” he said.

He added thanks to Councillor Jonathan Buckley for helping him liaise with the relevant departments. Meanwhile, Gilford Concerned Residents’ Group chairman Timothy Mayes said: “The issue of disrepair of these mural surrounds was brought to us by Gilford Together.

“We in Gilford Concerned Residents’ Group were happy to assist them to deal with this issue.” Pleased, he said, to see repairs completed, Mr Mayes thanked Gilford Together, Mr Anderson and Mr Buckley for what he called their continuing commitment to the village.
