Gilford residents raise roads concerns with DRD minister

ROADS and other issues were on the agenda when Gilford Concerned Residents Group met with DRD Minister, Danny Kennedy, and Upper Bann MLA Jo-Anne Dobson.

A number of concerns have been raised by various residents and processed by the group at their last meeting on 24 April. The group would like to thank both the Minister and Jo-Anne for arranging the meeting which also involved DRD officials.

Issues have been raised in connection with the roadway at Ann Street which is not currently in public ownership. The Department have agreed to write to GML Estates to explore the possibility of working towards adoption.

Timothy Mayes, from the resident’s group, commented, “The Minister identified some matters himself which we in the group have not actually raised and these will be brought back to the next group meeting for discussion.”

A number of concerns were raised around traffic issues at the roundabout adjacent to the War Memorial, particularly for traffic turning right from the village towards Scarva and Tandragee.

“The Minister was on site at a very busy period of the day traffic wise,” said Mr Mayes, “and our local MLA pointed out the appropriate concerns of road users and pedestrians. The Minister agreed to task his officials to see if appropriate measures can be taken forward to address these concerns which have now been brought forward in the Banbridge Area Plan.”

Mrs Dobson said, “This junction can be dangerous for road users and I support the concerns of Gilford residents as highlighted by the Residents Group directly with the Minister.”

In concluding Mr Mayes said, “The group looks forward to progressing these matters if possible and will be pressing the statutory bodies with the help of Jo-Anne for the replacement of Gilford Library with the Linen Museum.”
