Gill family’s double delight at annual plough match

Kilroot Agricultural Ploughing Society’s 105th annual match delivered a Gill family double act with Andrew capturing the Championship of the Field and his father William crowned Vintage Champion.

Andrew, William and the rest of the prize winners will receive their awards at the society’s annual dinner dance, to be held on January 11.

The judges were William King MBE, Macosquin; David Wallace, Muckamore; David Percy, Randalstown; George Huey, Armoy and Martin Gill, Crossgar.

A spokesperson for Kilroot Agricultural Ploughing Society thanked Mr and Mrs Sam Currie for the use of their land on the Knockagh Road, Newtownabbey, the judges, competitors, caterers and everyone else who helped to make the event a success.

- Ballyeaston Vintage Tractor Club marked their 40th anniversary with a special celebration dinner held in Barnaby’s Restaurant, Ballyrobert.

Chairman Warwick Manson welcomed the large turnout of members and friends, thanking them for the support. He also extended thanks to the McKee family for supplying a special anniversary cake; Tony Magill, who was largely responsible for organising the event; and Barnaby’s for the delicious meal.

The cake was cut by brothers Hugh and Howard Taggart, and Hugo McConnaughie.
