Girlfriend had stopped payments

When his girlfriend stopped direct debit payments a 29-year-old man did not know he was driving without insurance.

Andrew Graham, Bannview Heights, Banbridge, was fined £200 last Thursday at the local magistrates’ court for not having insurance when stopped by polie on March 6 this year.

He was also given six points and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard police spoke to him on the Scarva Road, Banbridge, and inquiries revealed there was no insurance in place. Direct debits had not been paid.

Graham was unaware the policy holder, his girlfriend, had not made the payments.

A solicitor representing the defendant said he had separated from his girlfriend who was responsible for the direct debit payments.

He added that she cancelled them and Graham only became aware of this through the police.
