Givan backs plan for Smithfield Square

LAGAN Valley Assembly Member Paul Givan has given his backing to an announcement that a development brief is being considered for development of a site at Smithfield Square in Lisburn.

The information was received in answer to an Assembly question to Social Development Minister, Nelson McCausland who gave an indication of what the Department is undertaking in cooperation with Lisburn City Council.

Mr Givan welcomed the response. “The Social Development Minister has outlined positive news in relation to the further development of Lisburn City.

“His response indicated that his department is seeking proposals for a retail-led, mixed-use development to also include a parking facility.

“I believe this action, along with funding being set aside for other regeneration projects, will help Lisburn to become more attractive to retailers and consumers alike.

“The Minister also made mention of plans to implement a revitalisation project in Dromore. I am mindful that this has been problematic for the centre of the town but I hope the Department of Social Development will consider this matter seriously in the implementation of this plan.”
