Glass bottles being left close to kids' play area

DUP Councillor Rhoda Walker has said she is disappointed to see, yet again, large amounts of glass bottles left close to a children's play area near Ballymacash Primary School.

The play area and accompanying sports facilities are in a housing estate between Windermere and Ballymacash and are often used by Ballymacash Primary School.

“It is unacceptable that our children are being subjected to this, their safety is paramount,” Mrs Walker said.

“Children deserve to be able to use these facilities care free. It is alarming that adults who reside in this community show total disregard for our young people.

“The children’s play area is a huge asset to our community and with the brighter weather forthcoming will be used more frequently.

“I would urge anyone responsible for this to please be aware of the dangers brought by this behaviour.

“Please dispose of your litter responsibly.”

The problem has been ongoing for the last couple of years in the area.

Mrs Walker said: “William Leathem and I raised the issue two years ago.

“There has also previously been a problem with people leaving bags of dog mess.
