Andrew Dunlop, of Dickeystown Road, pleaded guilty to a charge of sexual assault at Antrim Crown Court on Monday, November 4. The judge directed that the jury find him not guilty of charges of rape and sexual assault by penetration because the prosecution offered no evidence.

Dunlop was sentenced to three years probation to take part in a Community Sex Offenders Group Work Programme. He was also placed on the sex offenders register for five years.

A Rape Crime Unit spokesperson said: “The defendant’s plea of guilty spared his victim the ordeal of giving evidence. We welcome the public acknowledgement of his guilt for this sexual assault on an 18 year old woman. Hopefully, she will be able to make a substantial recovery from her ordeal.”
