Glengormley gets set for its first ever toe-tapping country & western festival

IT'S time to dust off the stetsons and pull on the cowboy boots for Newtownabbey's first ever Uptown Hoedown - the borough's Country & Western festival, which takes place in Glengormley from June 10 to 12.

On Thursday, June 10 food tasting and line dancing workshops for senior citizens will be held in the Barron Hall, Glengormley from 1pm to 4pm, with Dance Unlimited providing lessons and guidance to prepare for the main event.

The Hot Dog Hoedown, a junior disco & BBQ will take place on Friday, June 11 from 7pm to 9pm - also at the Barron Hall - ensuring everyone can get into the swing of the festival.

The main event on Saturday, June 12 kicks off at noon with entertainment for all the family at Glengormley Park.

A funzone will provide hours of free activities for children, including inflatables, arts and crafts and drumming workshops.

For the first time, Citybeat will hold a ‘Country Heat’ of their Young Star Search competition, so there’s a good chance of spotting the next Garth Brooks or Taylor Swift!

The Ulster Model Airplane Club will be displaying their replica planes and the classic car display is sure to attract a crowd of keen eyed enthusiasts.

No cowboy can go without his supper and there will be plenty of American food stalls to feast upon. Line dancing workshops will also be held throughout the day.

The best of Country & Western acts will take to the stage from 3pm as Gary Gamble brings his Country Jamboree starring Fiddler Adam, Curtis Magee and Kim Dickinson.

At 7pm the popular Louisiana Joyride will be the warm-up act for the headlining Jonny Cash tribute act by JP Mac at 8pm.

So get yourself down to Glengormley Park on June 12 for some terrific toe-tapping fun!
