Glengormley women enjoy busy end to 2009

THE members of Glengormley Townswomen's Guild enjoyed a busy programme of events during November and December.

Guest speaker at the November meeting was Robert Lacey, who was accompanied by his wife Karen and Faldo, their wonderful Labrador Retriever dog.

Robert, who is blind, gave a very interesting and humorous talk, explaining to his audience how he thinks using his other senses such as smell and touch. He also urged members to refrain from stopping to pet guide dogs in the street as it breaks their concentration when they are working.

Margaret Baxter, whose husband is also blind, presented Robert with a gift on behalf of the members, thanking him for a very interesting evening.

The monthly ballot was won by Pat Simmons.

On December 15 the Townswomen enjoyed their Christmas dinner at Ballyclare Golf Club, where there was plenty of festive cheer.

The hamper ballot, overflowing with Christmas goodies, was won by Winnie Beattie.

Members of the Townswomen’s Guild are looking forward to another year of exciting events in 2010.
